Look near genocide ans relocation ARE factors that change a peoples' appearance but from a story telling perspective... why? Like if you're just gonna change them to fair red heads, then why bother making them dark skinned to begin with? I LOVE this manwha, this is like my 3rd or 4th read through, I just find this beginning kind of pointless and problematic.
Ah maybe it didn't make it super clear here, but in the light novel it clarifies that she was given a really poor education (and barely paid attention because she didn't think she'd ever marry). As such, she has no knowledge of money or how much things should cost, and the merchant took advantage of that.
Yeah, I get that vibe too. The creator is trying to have lessons about healthy relationships and self love, but they're being kind of heavy handed about it and it just kind of tips the balance of the relationship into something I'm not currently all that comfortable with. I think its well intentioned, but I just dont like when either partner is just blatantly and openly pathetic. I mean these interactions are ones moms have with their kids, not ones people have with insecure partners. He comes across as an idiot more than someone who has been abused. People who've been treated like he was just don't act like that. There's too much shame to just broadcast how little you know. Idk. It's not awful but I don't particularly like it.
Yeah I gotta disagree too. He KNOWS she's capable and can handle herself, yet he keeps throwing himself into her business and ignoring her pretty explicit wishes for him to drop it, let alone basically trying to force himself on her by "saving her" when she's shown zero indication she wants that or him. She drew that line the first time he came to "save" her and she's stuck to it. In doing so, hes made it clear he doesnt respect her as a person. And before anyone says anything about Teo, she's pushed and pulled the boundary line the entire time and played around with intimate affection despite knowing where he's at emotionally (because she's warring with seeing him as Terriod and seeing him as Theodore, its understandable). And Teo's said that and how it's confusing for him. Teo of course could be better about respecting her words, but in his case her actions and what she says don't always line up, and he's good about easing up when she says so. Her and Teo are pretty complicated with each other. Benjamin is clinging to and trying to force a relationship she's clearly and consistently established as one sided, and he's done so primarily behind her back only to shove the efforts she never asked for in her face. While she's in a marriage she's chosen to stay in (for now), at that.
To be fair, I think his intention was to bring her into the light and expose that he abandoned a daughter. He could of done that without the pimping, but y'know. Romance manga logic
Yeah but there are SO many ways to show a group ostracized for a feature. Could have been birthmarks, a hair or eye color (I think irl red hair was seen as witches hair, but don't quote me on that), stature, language/accent. And that's just stuff people can easily clock even if you remove those people from their culture. It was just an all around unnecessary choice, either make them dark and keep them dark or don't do it at all. It might have been more forgivable if it came up as a plot point somewhere but we're well in and it hasn't even been mentioned again. Just a weird and dumb choice of origin telling
People are actually defending it? 🤢 like, even setting aside how problematic it is. It doesn't even make sense narratively. It's a pointless addition and does nothing for the plot or characters. Doesn't affect the FL's personality or history, doesn't come up later as like a hidden group of people, doesn't even get mentioned again. Like, if you're gonna be problematic at least pretend there's a reason. 🙄 idk it's just all around dumb and a blemish on an otherwise awesome story.
