Downside: He is a ruler. Part of his ruling style is political manipulation.

Is he a good guy? IMO, no. Will he hurt Tia? Not intentionally, no. And he's competent enough he won't do it by accident. Will he pull strings behind her back and hide things? Absolutely will, every day of their lives. Will she be happy? Most certainly. He will get rid of anything that might jeopardize her happiness.
